Review: This book has a slow beginning, even though or maybe because it takes place in two timelines. The often used short, abrupt sentences don’t help either. There were some mistakes as well, like no space between words.

The first main character is Lenina, who I couldn’t connect with at all. She rather irritated me, to be honest. She is sexually assaulted, sees her attacker on another day and still goes alone. Overall safety isn’t really on her mind. One of the cops who investigates her case on the other hand… That relationship didn’t sit well with me. And why is she so obsessed with his peppermint breath? I don’t know how often the reader reads about peppermint (a kindle search tells me 14 times).

The other main character’s timelines takes place in the past. And guess what? I didn’t like Saar as well. Mainly because I got the feeling like he didn’t treat his lovers well. Both are in love with him, but not with each other and still they have to deal with the fact that he is together with them both. That’s not really healthy. The way he handled being a vampire was the most interesting thing about this book, but not interesting enough to captivate me. I often found myself skipping lines.
