Description: Kipling doesn’t regret murdering his Alpha. Anything is better than continuing to live as a roughskin, subjected to brutal pit fights and abuse day after day. But constantly running for his life, always looking over his shoulder, and having nowhere to call home isn’t much better.

Review: I haven’t read anything by Megan Derr before (why?!), so I knew nothing about this series’ universe. And I didn’t have to in order to understand. The important things get explained, but not in too much detail. Overall I really enjoyed the writing style.
I liked all the characters, the relationships are really interesting and I have to say it: Dragons! I’ve never read anything with shifter-Dragons before…
Even though it’s a short book, a lot is happening in it. Sadly the ending was kind of anti-climatic in my eyes.

You should definitely check out Megan Derr’s other books in this same universe. They’re a lot of fun, and she does a great job of world-building. Sometimes her characters seem a bit off (hard to explain, but you’ll see what I mean, I think), but never in a way that makes the book unenjoyable!

I really like that, when you can drop into a series and the author includes enough for you to still understand. Sounds good!

The great thing here is, while there is enough information for new readers, it isn’t so much that a knowing reader would get bored. I think.
I have read a lot of series in which the next installment recounted every little thing that has happend and I’m like “Yes, I know, I was there!”.
