Top Ten Tuesday: Fairytale Retellings

As always this meme is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Go and take a look at their blog!

Confession time. I haven’t read any fairytale retellings yet. I think? So when I saw this week’s theme I started digging a little and now I present you 3 books I want to read now.

Hansel and Gretel

Never let you go Never let you go by Katy Regnery

In this modern retelling of “Hansel and Gretel,” 13-year-old foster children, Holden and Griselda, escape from their abductor after three years of brutal captivity and try to cross the Shenandoah River on foot. Tragically, one of them makes it to safety but the other is left behind.

Ten years later, Griselda’s boyfriend drags her to a fight club grudge match where her world is turned upside down when she watches Holden step into the ring.

Though the connection between them is fierce, bitter regret, simmering rage and a cache of physical and emotional scars lie between them, just as dangerous as the whitewater of the Shenandoah.

Goldilocks (at least that’s what a review told me)

GoldenGolden by Melinda Michaels

High school senior Hanna Loch just suffered a blackout in front of her entire homeroom class. She hasn’t had one in over ten years, and she’s terrified—the last time she blacked out, she woke up with no memory of her life before. To make matters worse, no one can explain why it happens. For Hanna, bad things tend to come in threes.

And that doesn’t even begin to cover it . . .

When she learns she could be a descendant of someone who lived once upon a time, Hanna must put her trust in William Vann, a descendant of one of the most hated villains ever known. Their histories are intertwined in more ways than she expected, and he has answers about her past, answers even her family won’t share.

But is it safe to put her trust in someone who appears to be danger reincarnate, while trying to escape the darkness that tried to kill her ten years ago?

Beauty and the Beast

Heart's nlood Heart’s Blood by Juliet Marillier

Whistling Tor is a place of secrets and mystery. Surrounded by a wooded hill, and unknown presences, the crumbling fortress is owned by a chieftain whose name is spoken throughout the district in tones of revulsion and bitterness. A curse lies over Anluan’s family and his people; those woods hold a perilous force whose every whisper threatens doom.

For young scribe Caitrin it is a safe haven. This place where nobody else is prepared to go seems exactly what she needs, for Caitrin is fleeing her own demons. As Caitrin comes to know Anluan and his home in more depth she realizes that it is only through her love and determination that the curse can be broken and Anluan and his people set free

  1. ooooo I love how your post is different to everyone else’s that I’ve seen today (including my own). Never Let You Go sounds amazing and heartbreaking all at the same time…I think I need to read it! Thanks for stopping by A Blonde Librarian 🙂

    • I had a lot of digging to do because I saw the… Lunar something? everywhere. The first book’s Cinder, I think. Anyway, they are so popular, that I didn’t want to put them on the list. And I am not really interested in that series, so another reason for not listing them… but these? I have to own them.
